At the beginning of the month we posted an introductory post about our best place to find a campsite feature, which is a series of reviews about websites that help you to find a campsite. This, our third post in the series, is a review of camping site finder www.ukcampsitefinder.co.uk

www.ukcampsitefinder.co.uk

The www.ukcampsitefinder.co.uk website has fun graphics, including a VW and a computer with smiley faces! The layout is not overly cluttered and the site is easy to navigate.

The search tree on left hand side of the page makes for easy advanced searching with lots of options. You can also search using map or list of counties.

On the 17th February, the government announced that it was to perform a
u-turn when it abandoned plans to sell 258,000 hectares of state-owned woodland in England. This would have been a total of 85% on top of the 15% they are already allowed to sell off, when in the public need. This announcement came from Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman in the House of Commons, a speech in which she admitted to being wrong and apologised. A good many walkers and outdoor enthusiasts were then able to breathe a huge sigh of relief! So, are we out of the woods yet?

BMC LogoA while back the UK coalition government announced the creation of the Big Society. It has been hailed as a way to give power to local communities and criticised as a way of introducing spending cuts. One potential drawback is that it could give more power to people who are intent on pushing their own financial agendas. But, what about us outdoor enthusiasts? Are there likely to be any positive or negative outcomes for hikers, climbers and mountaineers? There are certainly people out there who are not sympathetic towards walkers and climbers, and who may try to use it to hinder our activities. All is not bleak however, enter the BMC. The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) has recently published an article about how it intends to embrace the Big Society for the benefit of its members and the natural environment.

In October 2009 we interviewed John Loder, RSPB Campaign Talks Officer, about the RSPB’s Birds of Prey Campaign. In many countries around the world wild birds of prey are under threat from habitat loss and systematic killing. In some cases reintroduction programmes are helping to restore bird numbers. For example, Red Kites in the Chilterns and Mid Wales and Hen Harriers in the Forest of Bowland.

Here at CheapTents we fully understand the chaos that surrounds most people at this festive time of year, especially those of us taking part in the annual practice of last minute shopping.

But never fear, for CheapTents are here!
That sounded much catchier in my head…

Well kind of, if you are needing to last minute shop you will need to pop down to our physical store, in Warrington, the Adventure Centre. That is because our last shipping dates for pre-Christmas delivery have now been and gone, meaning orders placed online from Monday 20th will more than likely be delivered post-Christmas.

Whilst some of us are enjoy the current weather conditions, ideal for walking in the countryside, however we have heard a few moans and groans about the snowy weather conditions. Even from our delivery partners. Anyway I’m loving the weather and hope you are too but we need to tell you about some possible delays in delivery of orders.

Most of the UK is currently under severe weather warning for “wintery conditions” and as such the Royal Mail and Parcel Force, our delivery partners, have issues warnings that some deliveries may experience delays.

A few weeks ago I wrote a post explaining Phase One, the start of our website updates and I also talked of what was to come in Phase Two. Today, with Phase Two nearing completion I’d like to tell you a little about what updates Phase Two has included.

Phase Two updates are somewhat more complex than those in Phase One. This is to say without the changes made earlier Phase Two could not even be attempted, it also means they changes are more technically challenging and take longer to implement.
