…not just tents…a camping equipment blog too!

Stanage is a large and very impressive gritstone edge. It’s in the Peak District north of Hathersage and stretches out for about 6 km from its northern tip at Stanage End to Cowper Stone in the south.  Stanage Edge is an almost continuous line of cliffs including Burbage Rocks, Froggatt Edge, Curbar Edge, Baslow Edge and Birchen Edge.

The area is extremely popular among climbers due to the large grit crags, easy access and range of climbs, although due to its popularity the rock is quite polished in some places. Stanage isn’t just good for climbers though, as there are plenty of excellent routes for mountain bikers and walkers through the stunning scenery of the Peak District.

The main reason for talking about Stanage is the fact that the 284 bus between Stanage and Hathersage is going to be running on summer Sundays and bank holiday Mondays from 29 March to 18 October 2009.
The use of the bus is being encouraged to help protect the environment and enhance the Stanage experience.

Here are some good reasons to use the bus:

  • It’s a fully accessible bio-diesel bus with space for bikes/climbing equipment
  • Beat the crowds and do your bit to protect the Stanage environment
  • You can catch the train from Manchester or Sheffield and connect at Hathersage Station
  • Parking can be difficult at Stanage, especially at weekends
  • Rows of cars detract from the wild landscape and also belch out harmful fumes

With a day ticket only costing £2 there is no excuse not to use the bus and help preserve the natural environment.
