An article from the Evening Standard, dated 30.10.2006 and titled "<a href="http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23372564-details/Britons+%27could+be+microchipped+like+dogs+in+a+decade%27/article.do" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Britons 'could be microchipped like dogs in a decade'</a>" makes interesting reading. Quoting from an official report about surveillance technology for Britain's Information Commissioner Richard Thomas, the article highlights that <blockquote>"The surveillance society has come about us without us realising ... Some of it is essential for providing the services we need: health, benefits, education. Some of it is more questionable. Some of it may be unjustified, intrusive and oppressive." </blockquote> and that <blockquote>"by 2016 our almost every movement, purchase and communication could be monitored by a complex network of interlinking surveillance technologies."</blockquote> The article is a spoof, but it is not against the realms of possibility.
